Your retirement quote is issued

Six months before your Normal Retirement Date, or earlier if on request, a retirement pack is issued, with a retirement quote detailing your retirement options. This will include your Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVC) fund. The retirement pack contains information relating to payment dates and increases to your pension when in payment. Consider using the LV= Retirement Advice Service, which has been paid for by the Trustee of the Horizon Pension Scheme for members aged 54 and over.

You return your forms

Once you have considered your options and have chosen your retirement benefits, return your completed forms to the administration team.

Your forms are reviewed

The forms will be reviewed and the administration team will contact you within 5-10 working days if there are any queries.

Identity verification

A search to verify your identity will then be undertaken. This involves checking the details we hold against those held at credit reference agencies. They will supply us with information, including from the Electoral Register and fraud prevention agencies, for the purpose of verifying your identity only. The administration team will contact you if there are any queries. If not, you will next hear from us shortly before your retirement date. See step 6.

Disinvestment of Additional Voluntary Contributions (AVCs)

If you have AVCs, your AVC provider will be contacted and the fund will be disinvested ahead of your retirement date.

Pension payments arranged

Within five working days of your retirement date, the administration team will set up your pension and arrange payment of any lump sum, if applicable. A benefits confirmation letter will be issued and confirm when to expect your first pension payment.

Getting financial advice

Consider taking professional advice on your retirement options. If you do not have a financial adviser, the government’s MoneyHelper website provides free and impartial information on choosing one and links to details of financial advisers. Further information on this will be included in your retirement pack.

If you're 54 or over, you can take advantage of the expert pensions and retirement advice from LV=. They have been carefully selected by the Trustee of the Horizon Pension Scheme to provide independent retirement advice, paid for by the Trustee.
